Maria Goncalves, 102, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2018 at her home in Pawtucket. She was surrounded by her loving family. She is the daughter of the late Benjamin Mingola and Ana Carolina Goncalves.
In 1972, at the age of 56, Maria migrated to the US from Brava, Cape Verde. She worked at Monet jewelry factory for many years before retiring. After retirement she continued to help raise several of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Fernando Gomes and his wife Prescilia, Domingas Fortes and her husband Cecilio, Antonio G. Gomes and his wife Lucilia, Clarinda Gomes and her husband Joaquim, Laura DaGraca and her husband Joao and Adelino Gomes and his wife Amelia, all from Pawtucket. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Pedro Gomes and his wife Domingas (Pawtucket), Eugenia Azevedo (Pawtucket), Boaventuro Cardoso and his wife Angelina (Pawtucket), Antonio Fortes (Providence), Jose Fortes (East Providence), John Fortes and his wife Joana (Providence), Charlene Tavares (East Providence), Abilio Macedo and his wife Matilda (New Bedford) Antonio Gomes and his wife Jennie (Florida) her daughter-in-law Ana Cardoso and her son-in-law Joe Rocha. She also leaves behind her loving caretaker Nuesa Fortes.
She was preceded in death by her children Claricia Gomes, Quiteria Gomes, Ana Rocha, Maria Correia and her husband Benvindo, her stepson Manuel Cardoso and her grandson Frank Gomes.
Maria was blessed to have a large loving family which included 54 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. We will miss her sweet smile, her great sense of humor and her kind heart.
Her funeral will be held Friday, November 9th at 8:15am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, High St., Pawtucket at 10am. Burial will be graveside in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4pm until 7pm.
